The Foreign Minister of Denmark and Head of the Danish delegation to the Bring Back Our Girls sit-out in Abuja has pledged the support of the government of Denmark to ensure the Chibok girls are rescued alive.

Addressing members of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners in Abuja, the Foreign Minister of Denmark, Mister Kristian Jensen, said the search for the Chibok girls has assumed a global dimension requiring international collaboration.

Convener of the Bring Back Our Girls, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili, said the campaigners are not giving up hope of rescuing the Chibok girls.

She however laments the inability of the Federal Government to conclude the search for the girls after 665 days.

FG files 11 count charge against Moro, three others

The Federal Government today filed an 11 count charge against former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, and three others before the Federal High Court, Abuja. The charges marked FHC/ABJ/CR/42/2016, were filed by the EFCC on behalf of the Federal government.

The charges include money laundering, obtaining money under false pretext from prospective job applicants during the last Immigration recruitment exercise.
Those joined in the suit as defendants are the ministry's ex-Permanent Secretary, Anastasia M. Daniel-Nwaobia, F. A. Aleyebami and Drexel Global Technology Limited.

There appears to be a new twist in the crisis rocking the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) has switched lanes and expressed support for the newly appointed National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, addressed reporters on Tuesday after a closed door meeting of some of the party’s leaders.

Governor Mimiko explained that the PDP remains united despite conflicting reports that emerged over the last three days.

He insisted that Ali Modu Sheriff remains the party’s National Chairman until a national convention is held within a few weeks.

This is coming after former Ministers of the PDP had in a meeting, rejected Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the Chairman of Nigeria's front line opposition party.

The meeting is sequel to series of controversies that have trailed the emergence of the new PDP National Chairman who resumed office on Monday.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Waziri Adio, as the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

Until his appointment, Mr. Adio was a Communication Consultant and Publisher of Metrolope Magazine.

Between 1995 and 2003, he held various editorial positions in Thisday Newspaper and was Special Adviser, Research and Strategy, Office of the Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria from August 2003 to October 2004.

He was appointed Communication Specialist by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 2004, a position he held until 2007 when he left to serve as Director of Communications, NEITI from May 2007 to June 2008.

Mr. Adio graduated with a BSc. (Mass Communication) from the University of Lagos in 1992, and obtained MSc. (Journalism) Degree from Columbia University, New York, United States of America in 1999.

He also holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA, 2009.

His appointment is with immediate effect, said a statement by the Director of Press, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Bolaji Adebiyi.

The President also approved the appointment of a new National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG) otherwise known as Governing Board for the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

The composition of the new Governing Board is as follows:

(i) Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development – Chairman

(ii) Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance – Member

(iii) Group Managing Director, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) – Member

(iv) President, Miners Association of Nigeria – Member

(v) Representative of the Civil Society Organizations (to be elected by the organizations) – Member

(vi) President, Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society – Member

(vii) President, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) – Member

(viii) Hannatu Musa Musawa (Journalist), Representative, North-West Geo-Political zone – Member

(ix) Mr. Lawan Gana Lantaiwa (Consultant), Representative, North-East Geo-Political Zone – Member

(x) Mr. Bernard B. A. Ver (Accountant), Representative, North-Central Geo-Political Zone – Member

(xi) Mrs. Anne Adaeze Onyekwena (Representative, South-East Geo-Political Zone) – Member

(xii) Mr. Emmanuel Chiejina (Lawyer), Representative, South-South Geo-Political Zone – Member

(xiii) Mr. Gbenga Onayiga (Journalist), Representative, South-West Geo-Political Zone – Member

(xiv) Mr. Waziri Onibiyo Adio – Executive Secretary.

The new board will be inaugurated in due course, added Mr Adebiyi.

Reuters: Hundreds of Kosovars camp in central Pristina to demand new elections

Hundreds of Kosovars put up tents in Pristina's main square on Tuesday demanding snap elections and the suspension of a parliamentary vote that will bring in a president who helped broker a deal giving more powers to the ethnic Serb minority.

Opposition parties accuse presidential candidate, Hashim Thaci, deputy prime minister and the head parliament's biggest party, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), of nepotism and corruption. The former prime minister denies the accusations.

They have been protesting since October last year against the EU-brokered agreement with Serbia and have organized street protests, clashed with the police several times and last month set the government building on fire.

They have also frequently released tear gas in parliament over the last few months.

A total of N370 billion has been distributed to the federal, state and local governments for the month of January.

Addressing journalists after the monthly Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja, the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, said gross statutory revenue received for the January stood at two N290billion.

While attributing a shortfall of N24 billion drop in revenue to shut down and maintenance repairs at major oil terminals, she said a total of N2 billion owed the Federal Government was refunded by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The leadership of PDP has approved a three months tenure for the newly appointed Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff. The Nation reports that the decision was taken by an enlarged meeting of the PDP Governors' Forum, the party's Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Assembly Caucus, the party's National Working Committee (NWC) and state caucuses, which held at the Ondo state governors lodge in Abuja today February 23rd.

Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, the Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, said Sheriff was asked to lead the party for the next three months in which he will make preperations for the party's National Convention where new leaders of its National Working Committee will be elected.

Iran's oil minister called a proposal by Saudi Arabia and Russia to freeze oil production "ridiculous" as it seeks to boost output after years of sanctions constrained sales. Crude prices fell after the comments.

The proposal by Saudi Arabia, Russia, Venezuela and Qatar for crude oil producers to cap production at January levels puts "unrealistic demands" on Iran, Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said Tuesday, according to the ministry's news agency Shana.

"It is very ridiculous, they come up with the proposal on freezing oil production and call for this freeze to take place in their 10 million barrels a day production vis-a-vis Iran's 1 million barrels a day" planned production boost, he said. "If Iran's crude oil production falls, it will be overtaken considerably by the neighboring countries."

Ekiti ‎state governor, Ayo Fayose, has declared his support for the newly-appointed National Chairman of PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff. Speaking with newsmen in Ekiti state today February 23rd, Fayose said those who are against Ali Modu's appointment are politically incompetent as they couldn't win 10% of their states during the last general elections;

"As a governor, he can't give me money. I'm not looking for a favour, I don't need him to do what I have to do in my state. But most of the people clamouring, particularly in the north today, I want to say that none of them won 10 percent in their state? What are they bringing to the table to continue with this argument? As who? What is their relevance at home? But as a leader, I still have to appeal to them.
